Gator Nation:
All of us understand that competition is a vital part of athletics. What our Lady Gators have had to recently endure goes against the core values of respect, integrity, and fairness that athletics are meant to teach.
As educators and mentors, we are tasked with instilling life lessons in our athletes. Lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and respect for others, regardless of the scoreboard. Unfortunately, the actions witnessed during the past two games sent a different message to all involved, including the spectators, players, and students who look to these events as opportunities to build community and celebrate sportsmanship.
At Two Rivers, we believe that true victory is not only measured by the points scored, but by the character displayed on and off the court. Our teams were the recipients of a harsh lesson that not everyone shares those same values. We remain committed to teaching our players to compete with honor and respect and to rise above such experiences.
We are proud of our Lady Gators for demonstrating resilience and composure despite the disrespect they were shown. They upheld the values we strive to instill in our student-athletes by showing respect for the game, their opponents, and themselves.
We encourage ALL teams, coaches, and schools to reflect on the broader purpose of youth sports and the impact our actions have on young athletes. Let us collectively strive to create environments where competition UPLIFTS and UNITES, rather than discourages or divides.
Sincerely,
Dr. Harry Alvis - Superintendent
